Advent Devotional - Day 1

DECEMBER 1 – Luke 1: 26-29
By: Char Klima

Mary was an ordinary young woman living an ordinary life in a small town a good distance from the epicenter of business and politics in Jerusalem. Suddenly everything changed for her- and for the world- when God showed up in the form of an angel. Gabriel blessed Mary and demanded her attention. It was her reaction that changed the world. Luke says Mary was perplexed by the angel’s greeting. That is probably one of the biggest understatements ever recorded. Mary very likely was shaking in her sandals and trying to decide which way to run. Fortunately for us, she opened her heart to God’s message instead.

Has God spoken to you lately? He doesn’t always use angels to communicate. It might be a friend’s hug or a quiet moment at sunset or vibrant rainbow colors that grab your attention and allow the Lord to speak to your heart. Listen! Perhaps God has a plan and you are the one He chooses to carry it out! Listen!

Dear Lord, Make me more aware of your Holy Spirit working right here where I live. Tune my listening skills to your Holy frequency and embolden me to act for the sake of your creation. Amen
