Advent Devotional - Day 18

DECEMBER 18 – Genesis 22: 1-18

A baby is foretold.
Through God’s miracles, a son is born to a woman who wasn’t supposed to have a child at this point in her life.
The son grows up.
God requires that the son be sacrificed.
Through faithful obedience, God is glorified, and nations are blessed through the generations.
For centuries to come, God’s people remember.

The story of Abraham and Isaac is a foreshadowing of the story of Jesus’ birth and sacrifice. Generations have been blessed by these examples of obedience, faithfulness, sacrifice, and trust in God’s care and plan.

Father God, help us to trust that you have the bigger picture in your plan. Help us to trust in the blessings that follow when we put our faith on the line in obedience. May Jesus’ blessings touch our lives and our service to others. Amen.
