Advent Devotional - Day 12

DECEMBER 12 – John 1: 10-14
By: Frank Raike

14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. When a child comes into the world, a prayer is often made. It may be a formal prayer of  thanks, praise, and blessings or just a passing thought, inner-wish of hope, prosperity, and love for this new life.

The Nativity of Jesus occurred about 2000 years ago with the angels announcing, “Glory to God in the highest and peace to God’s people on Earth.” The Nativity of Christmas occurs every year and for generations to come. It brings the same announcement;
“Peace to God’s people on Earth.” Is this God’s prayer to us?
Peace: the state of quiet or tranquility; freedom from disturbance or agitation; calm; repose.
Peace: the exemption from, or cessation of, war or conflict with others.
Peace: public quiet, order, and contentment in obedience to law.
Peace: the exemption from, or subjection of, agitating passions; tranquility of mind or conscience.
Peace: the reconciliation; agreement after variance; harmony; concord.
Peace: to make or become quiet to; be silent; to stop.

It is through the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit that the word comes to us, full of grace and truth; for a world of Peace.

Dear Lord, help us to know you and grant us the peace of our actions, our minds, and of our hearts throughout the years. Amen.
